Unit Price Calculator and Package Comparison

Calculate the unit price and compare packages of different sizes. The calculator converts quantities to the same unit and compares the price per kilogram, litre, piece or metre.

Unit price

Prices are converted to a price per kg, litre, piece or metre so that packages can be compared directly.

Enter the price and quantity of at least one package.

Add at least one more package to compare.

Choose compatible units for all packages, such as g and kg or ml and l.

What is a unit price?

A unit price shows the cost of a product per standard unit of measurement, such as a kilogram, litre, piece or metre.

It makes products with different package sizes easier to compare. A larger package may cost more in total while still having a lower price per kilogram or litre.

How do you compare different package sizes?

Enter the price, quantity and unit for each package. The calculator converts compatible quantities to a common unit and calculates the unit price automatically.

For example, you can compare 250 g with 0.5 kg or 750 ml with 1.5 l. Only compatible measurements can be compared directly. Weight and volume cannot be compared without additional information about the product.

How is unit price calculated?

Unit price is calculated by dividing the product price by its quantity expressed in the selected base unit.

Unit price = price ÷ quantity

If a 500 g package costs 159, its weight is 0.5 kg. The unit price is therefore 159 ÷ 0.5 = 318 per kg.

Package price comparison example

A smaller package of coffee contains 250 g and costs 89. A larger package contains 500 g and costs 159.

The smaller package costs 356 per kg, while the larger package costs 318 per kg. The larger package therefore offers better value per kilogram even though its total price is higher.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate price per kilogram?

Convert the quantity to kilograms and divide the price by the number of kilograms. For example, 250 g is 0.25 kg. If the package costs 89, the price per kilogram is 89 ÷ 0.25 = 356 per kg.

How do I calculate price per litre?

Convert the volume to litres and divide the price by the number of litres. For example, 750 ml is 0.75 l. A product costing 90 therefore has a unit price of 120 per litre.

Is a larger package always better value?

No. A larger package may have a lower price per kilogram, litre or piece, but this is not guaranteed. Comparing unit prices shows which package actually offers better value.

Can kilograms and litres be compared?

Not directly. A kilogram measures weight and a litre measures volume. Converting between them requires the density of the specific substance, so this calculator does not compare them without additional information.
