When must large stores stop selling on public holidays?

Under Act No. 223/2016 Coll., retail sales are prohibited on selected public holidays in stores with a sales area over 200 m². The restriction applies on 1 January, Easter Monday, 8 May, 28 September, 28 October, and 25 and 26 December. On Christmas Eve, 24 December, sales are prohibited from 12:00 to 24:00.

The law also provides exceptions. Among others, the restriction does not apply to stores with a sales area of 200 m² or less, petrol stations, pharmacies, stores at airports, railway stations and bus stations, or stores in healthcare facilities.

The law has been in force since 1 October 2016. Kolikto therefore does not display this sales restriction for holidays before that date.
